This Watercolor series was challenging.
From balancing the heart-wrenching emotional complexity of the subject, that of a royal family being deposed and murdered in the most criminal way, with the supreme delicacy of the medium, in this case being watercolor, it was a growing experience all around, especially artistically.
Grappling with these two forces and coming through the other side of work was a crucible I did not intend to pass through, but it made me a better artist and I am better off for it all around.
The series took a little over 5 months, from September of 2023 to late February of 2024.
In the final analysis, I can say that I am ultimately pleased with both the technical execution of the work and with the balance that was ultimately struck in the final pieces.
